From the start, southern Norway has been a place where innovative environments, entrepreneurs and enthusiasts have developed globally-leading technology. Industry in southern Norway was one of the pioneers in the development of the Norwegian continental shelf. In 1972, the then Minister for Industry, Sverre Walther Rostoft, took the initiative to found Oil Industry Services A/S, which became Norway’s first umbrella company for commissions in this new industry. This means that we have many years of experience of working in networks.

Having gone through all the phases of module building, linking, engineering, maintenance, etc., the cluster now stands as a world-leading technology cluster.
NODE (Norwegian Offshore & Drilling Engineering) was established in 2005 as a cluster project for the supplier industry in southern Norway. Twenty-nine companies took part in the start-up. In 2005, their total turnover amounted to NOK 5 billion, the order reserve was SEK 2.5 billion, and they had 1,800 employees. In January 2006, NODE was given ARENA main project status. The vision was to develop a cluster culture that would contribute to the cluster remaining world-leading, regardless of competition.
In 2009, NODE was awarded the status of an NCE (Norwegian Centre of Expertise). NCE NODE maintains the vision of contributing to southern Norway’s offshore industry remaining world-leading, regardless of competition.
